Acting Concentration, B.F.A.

We offer an organized, exciting and fun setting where budding actors can hone their skills, acquire hands-on experience, and ready themselves for professional paths in the performing arts sector.

The Theatre Arts Program develops knowledge, skill, and conservatory training in acting, singing, dancing, and theatrical design and technology. The Program provides a broad range of experiences in multiple classes and shows, enabling students to prepare for careers in theatre, film, television, internet, and other multi-media productions that incorporate comedy, tragedy, drama, musicals, and video. Close to New York City, the Theatre Program utilizes the proximity by regularly inviting professional guest directors and designers from Broadway and movies to direct and design our productions and as well as offer master classes.

Audio Recording and Music Production Concentration

Pursue a career in Audio & Music Recording Technology with a concentration in Audio Recording Technology. The Audio & Music Recording Technology concentration from Five Towns College provides students with the business and technical expertise required to operate industry standard audio recording equipment. These in-demand skills, expertise, and hands-on experience lead to several career paths in this growing industry, like music production and sound engineering.

Our Audio & Music Recording Technology concentration is designed to immerse you in the world of audio recording by exposing you to professional audio equipment and industry practices on day one. You will attain the business and technical expertise required to operate industry standard audio and music recording equipment through active experimental participation.

Broadcast Journalism and Communications

The Broadcasting Concentration is designed to build upon the Mass Communication degree by adding specialized proficiencies that focus on Broadcast Journalism as a career. It is geared towards students who are interested in being on-air or working behind the scenes in sports, radio, television, youtube and live event productions. Professionals in the industry share their knowledge as guest speakers, while field trips to commercial stations are exciting and anticipated activities for students.

Being a professional broadcaster is not just a job; it is an art form. With the right tools and proper guidance, the students will learn the ins and outs of the craft. They will learn the significance of thorough research, meticulous reporting and working as a team to produce quality productions.

Cinematography and Film Making

The Cinematography, Film and Television Program leads to a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (B.F.A.) and is designed for students interested in a career in directing, cinematography (lighting and camera), screenwriting, film editing, producing, production design and sound recording. From the first day of classes, Filmmaking students have access to the college’s professional film equipment. A hands-on approach provides professional experience and teaches the skills needed to pursue a career in any sector of the film industry.

Dance and Musical Theatre

Musical Theatre Majors develop the triple-threat skills in singing, dancing, and acting required for careers on Broadway and Regional Theatre.  Five Towns College offers Dance Classes every semester in ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, and theatrical dancing, as well as private singing lessons weekly, and intensive acting training.  Students in Musical Theatre work with successful profession faculty in classes and with directors, as well as developing demo reels for their future careers in the business.  As with the actors, musical theatre actors perform in a Senior Showcase.

Graphics, Animation, VFX and 3d Motion

We offer an organized, exciting and fun setting where budding actors can hone their skills, acquire hands-on experience, and ready themselves for professional paths in the performing arts sector.

The Interactive Media Arts (IMA) program offers a challenging, idea-driven environment that teaches students skills in creative design technologies. These technologies are used in a variety of redefined creative ways, including Computer Graphics, 2D/3D Animation, Virtual Reality, Game Development, Digital Graphic Design, Motion Graphics, and User Interface design.

Music and Entertainment Business Concentration

he Music Entertainment Industry Studies concentration is designed to provide you with the necessary expertise within the music business industry. As a  music business major, you will study the legal, production, management, marketing, and merchandising aspects of this field. You will be prepared to pursue careers as artist managers, concert promoters, music marketers, and music publishers.

A business management degree focuses on developing skills to support business professionals in management or leadership positions. To specifically focus on the music and entertainment industry, a business management degree with a concentration in music and entertainment industry studies gives you the skills you need to pursue a variety of music and entertainment business careers.

Music Teacher Education

Five Towns College is proud to boast that it is the only college in Suffolk County, NY, that is both an institutional accredited member of the National Schools of Music (NASM) and whose Music Teacher Education Division is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), www.ncate.org, now the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

The Music Teacher Education Program at Five Towns College is a comprehensive course of study with a strong commitment to excellence leading to a Bachelor of Music Degree (Mus.B.) The program is designed to create collaborative, reflective music educators dedicated to all learners’ growth and development. In addition to the above accreditations, the program fulfills the New York State Education Department’s requirements for initial certification in Music Education.

Songwriting and Composition Concentration, Mus.B.

The Composition and Songwriting Concentrations are designed to provide students with the professional training to pursue music careers as composers, arrangers and songwriters. You will receive intensive instruction in a core of technical studies that include courses, such as harmony, orchestration, counterpoint, MIDI, songwriting, keyboard techniques, form and analysis, commercial arranging and composition. These concentrations are distinct.

Theatre Design and Technology Concentration

Students in the Theatrical Design and Technology concentration develop skills in six areas: set, lights, costume, stage management, technical direction, and sound design for the stage, in order to prepare careers for all aspects of stage design and technology.  Theatrical Design and Technology students participate in Stage Source in Boston, USITT, and other conferences for job placement.

All of our students are exposed to New York City professionals (agents and casting directors, as well as Broadway and Regional stage designers and directors) creating a working environment of academic and professional experiences.
