Career Paths

College/University Music Educator
Instruct/teach/develop related courses at the college level.

Composer/Arranger
Write and arrange musical compositions.

Drum Corps Instructor
Instruct/teach a drum corps at the middle school, high school or college level to perform at school events including parades, sports events, pep-rallies etc.

Marching Band Instructor
Instruct and teach a marching band at the high school or college level to perform at school sports events, parades, pep-rallies, etc.

Performer
Play a musical instrument for audiences at a professional level.

Private Instructor
Instruct students in a one-on-one setting on specific instruments.

School Music Teacher
Instruct/teach/direct all music related courses in a public or private school setting (K-12) including:

Five Towns College is proud to boast that it is the only college in Suffolk County, NY, that is both an institutional accredited member of the National Schools of Music (NASM) and whose Music Teacher Education Division is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), www.ncate.org, now the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

The Music Teacher Education Program at Five Towns College is a comprehensive course of study with a strong commitment to excellence leading to a Bachelor of Music Degree (Mus.B.) The program is designed to create collaborative, reflective music educators dedicated to all learners’ growth and development. In addition to the above accreditations, the program fulfills the New York State Education Department’s requirements for initial certification in Music Education.
